I can just smell the war on Christmas around the corner.
According to AP, Kathy Griffin pissed off The Catholic League (anything like the Superfriends?) during the Creative Arts Emmys when she gave an acceptance speech which I actually found quite funny. “A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus. Can you believe this shit? Hell has frozen over. Suck it, Jesus, this award is my god now.”
Hmmm. Blasphemy, no? How will you ever go on worshiping your God when there are nonbelievers out there? Clearly, Jesus would want them scrutinized and shunned. That seems to be Catholic League President Bill Donohue's stance, who released the following statement:
Needless to say, E! decided to be God's bitch. They're censoring her acceptance speech.
I think I speak for any person in their right mind when I say:
Suck it the fuck up, you giant babies.

“The ball is now in Griffin’s court. The self-described ‘complete militant atheist’ needs to make a swift and unequivocal apology to Christians. If she does, she will get this issue behind her. If she does not, she will be remembered as a foul-mouthed bigot for the rest of her life.”And the Catholic League will be remembered as a bunch of hypocritical, censor-happy Nancy Boys who represent an establishment full of pedophiles (I say this as a baptized Catholic and, thank God, a converted atheist) and neurotic right-to-lifers.
Needless to say, E! decided to be God's bitch. They're censoring her acceptance speech.

"Kathy Griffin Is My God Now"
Well, at least your atheism is cured. And it couldn't have lasted too long either!
I think the problem is that these self-appointed arbiters/intermediaries between God and the rest of us feel that thanks to the One True Lord is a validation of their importance. They are closer to God than us (just ask them), therefore they share in all successes attributed to the Lord. Its great reasoning, really. These religious leaders don't have to do shit, but share the glory of those who work their asses off. Its almost as if religion is a leech that produces little, and feeds off the accomplishments of others. I wonder why no one has made this point before?
Because there are, for the most part, three people who could say it: priests, paritioners and nonbelievers. The priests wouldn't, because that would invalidate their position as a mediator between God and the lowly peasants. The paritioners wouldn't because if they honestly buy into that, they've got enough faith to believe that horseshit. And the nonbelievers just think the whole thing is silly, and spend their time talking more about the concept of religion and less about the inherntly corrupt heirarchy.

She is a good God. She is a great God. She is a funny God.
Griffin has the complete right to say as she feels. The Catholic League also has the same right. However, I agree that the "demands for apologies" is getting out of control. Drop it already. What Griffin said was offensive, yes. But that's the beauty of free speech.
Hell, at least all she's getting is verbal criticism. If she yelled "Suck it, Allah," she'd have a fatwa on her ass by now.
Hube, I don't believe I've laughed that hard in a while.
Was that legitimate laugh or a sarcastic one, Mat? And about which part?
Legitimate, regarding the "fatwa" clause.
